Every trip to Titlis runs through Engelberg, a village at the end of a valley south of Lucerne. You get there by train, by car or on a coach, then ride the cable cars up. Not sure about Mount Titlis guided tours? Here is the journey on your own, and where each tour meets you.
Lucerne to Engelberg
Lucerne is the gateway. The Luzern-Engelberg Express runs direct from Lucerne station to Engelberg in 43 minutes on a normal day, climbing through the gorges at the top of the valley. From Zurich Airport, trains reach Lucerne every half hour in about an hour.
- At Lucerne station, board the Zentralbahn train to Engelberg.
- Ride to the end of the line at Engelberg station.
- Take the free local bus, or walk, to the Titlis valley station.
- Show your ticket at the gate and board the gondola. The cable cars take you to 3,020 metres in about 30 minutes.
The valley station sits at the edge of the village. From Engelberg station, take the free bus that links it with the valley stations, or walk: it is a short walk through the village. The first gondola leaves at 08:30, the last ride up is at 16:00, and the last one down at 17:00.
A Swiss Travel Pass covers the train. On the cable car, it halves the fare, so check the tickets page before you go.
From Zurich, Basel and Interlaken
From every other city you change once, in Lucerne. These are the fastest journeys on a normal weekday, taken from the Swiss timetable:

Engelberg-Titlis Tourism also suggests a slower route in summer. Take the boat from Lucerne across the lake to Stansstad or Buochs, then the bus and train on to Engelberg.
The autumn 2026 replacement bus
No direct train from 7 September to 1 November 2026. Until 18 October the train from Lucerne runs only to Stansstad, and a replacement bus takes you on to Engelberg station: 49 minutes in all. From 19 October to 1 November the bus starts at Dallenwil instead, 41 minutes in all. Look up your date in the SBB app before you set out, and allow 15 minutes more for the change. Direct trains return on 2 November; every other dated change is on the seasonal schedule.
The coach tours drive, so the bus does not change their day. The small-group days by train use this line, so expect the bus on those days too.
Driving and parking
By car, Engelberg is 30 minutes from Lucerne and about 1 hour 15 minutes from Zurich or Basel. Leave the A2 motorway at Stans-Süd and follow the main road, open all year, for 20 km up the valley.
Park at the Titlis valley station for CHF 5 per car per day, paid at a machine.

Getting there questions
How do you get to Mount Titlis from Lucerne?
Take the Zentralbahn train from Lucerne station to Engelberg: 43 minutes on the direct train. From Engelberg station, the free bus or a short walk takes you to the valley station.
Is there a direct train to Engelberg in autumn 2026?
Not from 7 September to 1 November: you change to a replacement bus at Stansstad, then from 19 October at Dallenwil. The direct trains return on 2 November.
How long does it take from Zurich to Mount Titlis?
By train, about 1 hour 43 minutes to Engelberg with one change in Lucerne, then about 30 minutes in the cable cars. By car it is about 1 hour 15 minutes to Engelberg.
Can you drive to the Titlis cable car?
