At 3,020 metres it is winter in every month, and the summit is eight to twelve degrees colder than Engelberg below. The weather rarely stops the cable car, but it decides what you see and what is open. Booking a Mount Titlis day tour? Read the month you travel first.
What the weather does to a visit here
Three things can change your day. Wind closes the cableway on a few days a year, and it shuts the Cliff Walk and the Ice Flyer more often. Cloud can hide every view from the terrace while Engelberg sits in sunshine. And summer heat can close the Glacier Cave, as it did on several days in August 2026.
What to do about it: check the summit forecast and webcam the day before. Every tour here cancels free up to 24 hours ahead, so you can move your day if it looks bad. Keep an indoor plan too: the cave and the station are there when the terrace is in cloud.

February
Summit mean −9.6 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 1.4 °C. Engelberg: highs of 3 °C, 81 mm of rain and 92 hours of sun. As cold as January at the summit, and the driest month in the valley. Days grow longer, so you get more light at the top.
March
Summit mean −8.3 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 1.7 °C. Engelberg: highs of 7 °C, 98 mm of rain and 128 hours of sun. Still full winter at 3,020 metres, though the valley starts to thaw. Snow play stays down at Trübsee.
April
Summit mean −5.8 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 3.3 °C. Engelberg: highs of 12 °C, 112 mm of rain and 146 hours of sun. The summit mean is still well below freezing. Wet days in the valley can mean fresh snow at the top.
May
Summit mean −2.2 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 7.5 °C. Engelberg: highs of 16 °C, 166 mm of rain and 147 hours of sun. The Ice Flyer switches to its summer hours on 4 May. The valley turns green while the glacier stays white.
June
Summit mean 2 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 12.8 °C. Engelberg: highs of 19 °C, 179 mm of rain and 158 hours of sun. The first month with a mean above freezing at the top. Rain rises in the valley, so pack a waterproof for Engelberg.
July
Summit mean 3.5 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 13.3 °C. Engelberg: highs of 21 °C, 198 mm of rain and 164 hours of sun. Peak season: the longest queues, the snow slides at the summit, and the wettest month in Engelberg. Go up early.
August
Summit mean 3.6 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 12.6 °C. Engelberg: highs of 21 °C, 196 mm of rain and 157 hours of sun. The warmest month at the top. Heatwaves can close the Glacier Cave, as travellers found in August 2026.
September
Summit mean 0.8 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 10 °C. Engelberg: highs of 16 °C, 128 mm of rain and 131 hours of sun. Colder nights and settled days. The crowds thin after the school holidays, and the air is often clear.
October
Summit mean −1.3 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 10.2 °C. Engelberg: highs of 12 °C, 110 mm of rain and 112 hours of sun. The Ice Flyer's summer season ends on 31 October. Early snow can come to the summit, and the valley colours turn.
November
Summit mean −5.7 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 4.6 °C. Engelberg: highs of 6 °C, 102 mm of rain and 61 hours of sun. The quietest month, before the ski season. Lifts close in turn for their autumn service, so check your date.
December
Summit mean −8.3 °C; the month's warmest reading is usually about 2 °C. Engelberg: highs of 3 °C, 107 mm of rain and 31 hours of sun. Snow returns to Trübsee and the ski runs open. In 2026 the Rotair reopens after 11 December.
The seasons, and which one you want
Pick summer, June to August, if you want the snow slides and the Ice Flyer at their busiest and the valley at its greenest. Pick September for clear air and fewer people. Pick winter for skiing, deep snow at Trübsee and the hardest cold at the top: dress for −20 °C. The dates each lift runs are on the seasonal schedule.

Best time of day
Go up early. The first cable car leaves Engelberg at 08:30, before most coaches arrive, and an early start gives you the most time before the last ride up at 16:00.
At the top, head for the Cliff Walk first while the view is open. Leave the Glacier Cave for later, because it looks the same in any weather. The last ride up is at 16:00, and the last one down at 17:00.
Weather questions
How cold is it at the top of Titlis in summer?
In July and August the monthly mean at the summit station is about 3.5 °C. On a warm afternoon it can reach 12 to 13 °C, but the wind makes it feel colder.
Is there snow on Titlis all year?
Yes. The summit sits on a glacier, so you walk on snow even in August. In a heatwave the snow thins and some things close, such as the Glacier Cave.
What is the best month to visit Mount Titlis?
September gives you settled weather, summer lifts and smaller crowds. For snow play at the top, go from June to August; for skiing, from December.
What happens if it is cloudy on Titlis?
The cable cars still run, and the Glacier Cave is indoors. You may see nothing from the terrace, so check the forecast the day before and use free cancellation if it looks bad.
