Ten hours: a lake, a city and a glacier

Sihlquai to Lucerne along the lake

The day starts at the Best of Switzerland Tours counter at Sihlquai, the coach station just behind Zurich's main railway station. The coach heads south to Lake Lucerne, and your guide points out the landmarks on the way. In Lucerne you get a short guided tour of the centre and some free time before the drive on to Engelberg, the village at the foot of the mountain.

What's in the fare, and the 2026 hour at the top

From Engelberg the cable cars take about half an hour to the summit station at 3,020 metres: an eight-seat gondola to Stand, then the top section across the glacier. The revolving Rotair, which usually does that last stretch, is closed from 17 August to 11 December 2026 for the new summit station, so until then you ride TITLIS Connect, a cabin that does not turn. The fare covers every cable car, the Cliff Walk, the Glacier Cave and the Ice Flyer, weather permitting.

While the summit station is rebuilt, Best of Switzerland Tours limits summit visits to about an hour, from June 2026. After that the group rides down to the Trübsee middle station, where the restaurants are. An hour is enough for the bridge and the chairlift if you go straight to them; if you want the whole morning up high, the cableway's own ticket has no clock on it.

An hour on the glacier, used well

Start with the Ice Flyer, the six-seat chairlift that crosses crevasses up to 20 metres deep to the Glacier Park, where you can slide down on a snow tube in summer. Then walk out to the Cliff Walk: 100 metres of suspension bridge over a 500-metre drop, free with the fare. The Glacier Cave lies 10 metres under the surface, reached by a lift from inside the station, in ice more than 5,000 years old.

Two things cost extra at the top: food, and the new viewing deck in the tower, which opened in June 2026. The TITLIS Horizon deck is CHF 18 for an adult and CHF 9 for a child, paid on the spot by cash or card. Decide on the day: in cloud, the hour is better spent on the snow.

Down through Trübsee and home

You come down the way you went up, stopping at Trübsee, the lake at about 1,800 metres where the restaurants for the group are this year. Your coach waits in Engelberg for the drive back to Zurich.

Guests on the day in September 2026 met the other side of mountain travel: a fault on the upper cable car stopped their group at Trübsee, and the part they missed was refunded. Weather can do the same, so book a day with slack in your plans after it.

How the ten hours run

1. Sihlquai, Zurich. Check in at the Best of Switzerland Tours counter at least 15 minutes early, voucher ready.
2. Lake Lucerne. The coach follows the shore; your guide names what you pass.
3. Lucerne. A short guided tour, then free time in the centre.
4. Engelberg. The mountain part of the day starts at the valley station.
5. Cable cars, about 30 minutes. Gondola to Stand, then TITLIS Connect to 3,020 metres until 11 December.
6. The summit, about an hour. Ice Flyer, Cliff Walk and the cave, weather permitting.
7. Trübsee, then home. Lunch at the middle station, then the cable cars and the coach back to Zurich.

What the fare covers

Meeting at Sihlquai, behind Zurich station

Meet at the Best of Switzerland Tours counter at Sihlquai bus station, Limmatstrasse 2, on the river side of Zurich's main station. Check in at least 15 minutes before departure with the QR code on your voucher, on your phone or printed.

The meeting point can differ with the option you book, so read your confirmation for the exact place and time. The day ends back at Sihlquai in the evening.

Know before you go

• Bring a passport or ID card. You need it at check-in.
• Dress for winter. The top is snow in every month: a warm jacket, shoes with a solid rubber sole and sunglasses.
• Eat off the coach. Food is not allowed in the vehicle; the group eats at Trübsee this year.

• Expect TITLIS Connect. The revolving cabin is closed until 11 December 2026 while the new station is built.
